Winter’s Hush

Winter comes gently with promises of holiday joy and quiet evenings around our fireplace. I ignore what Winter and I both know. To enjoy its beauty, I accept its reality. Trees will glisten and sparkle through sunlight on snow. The red bird will sing on icicle branches, yet some of these branches will crackle, break, and die. Echoes of a life once lived will stir the silence. The red bird will pause…. then continue to sing. Life will go on. Life will stop. All at the same time.

The song below is a bit melancholy yet fitting for the season of joy that is sometimes mixed with grievous reminders of loved ones gone.

This would be a great time to settle with a cup of hot tea. Wrap in a blanket, and listen to the soundtrack below. As you do, close your eyes and maybe give thanks for the good while tending the hurt in your heart.

I first heard this song in the movie, The Secret Garden. The story line read that all seemed lost in the garden. Nonetheless, life revived through seeds sown and the attentive love of child like faith. May its beauty infuse comfort as you rest in Winter’s Hush.
