a letter to a friend

Dear, friend.

I am home on this rainy day thinking about our last conversation. You clutched your heart in pain, as words failed. The tears, however, continued to flow. Thank you for trusting me in such a holy moment. I shall forever count myself blessed that you found me worthy to sit with you and pray; to join hearts in trusting that God would somehow, someway, make a way where there seemed to be no way. I continue to pray for Heaven’s intervention and for a bright future, in spite of how gloomy things sometimes still appear.

I came across a Scripture I thought might strengthen you.

“And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.” Exodus 4:31b NIV

Is that perfect, or what?!

Remember how difficult it was to praise that day because, it seemed God had lost sight of you. We had His word with promises of faithful care. Nonetheless, feelings shouted a different narrative of having been abandoned and forgotten. I stood amazed at how you clung to one thread of hope that things might eventually be okay. That one thread pointed to the hope of resurrection, and it was just enough to help us pray. My oh my… how you prayed! Not with cookie cutter or copycat words. You prayed gut honest real prayers. Thank you!

Though distance separates our being together, I continue to surround you with faith and love.

Please know. I believe with all my heart, the verse I shared is true. The Lord is concerned about you, and He has seen your misery.” Maybe step back from the pain for just a moment as you lean into this truth. God really does see and He really does care… for you.

Lord, please help my friend. What she had gone through has been so unfair and rotten. Not only did it damage her heart, it also pained You. I am so thankful that you specialize in causing beauty to rise out of ashes. I know you personally as the one who binds up brokenness and who saves those crushed in spirit. Please, do for my friend what You did for me. Hold her close. Remind her of Your faithful love. Be her ever present help in time of need. Amen

Oh! By the way, friend…. I care too! I think you know that though 🙂

Until we meet again,

Mary

Note: My friend gave permission to share her letter in hopes that it might help someone else. I deleted identifiable details to protect her anonymity. Thank you, dear friend
